Q: 27 y/o female with continous headache for almost 2 months

I'm a 27 year old female whose only previous medical condition has been asthma. I have had a continuous headache since right before Christmas 2011. It just randomly started one day and never went away. I have not really had many headaches before then. By continuous headache, I mean there has been no period where I have not had a headache since then. The headache is located in a very localized area in the right frontal area of my head. Most of the time it is just a dull ache, but when I cough, bend over, or lie down the pain becomes more of a stabbing sensation. I took OTC pain relievers at first, but they did nothing and so I stopped. Nothing really helps. The pain itself is not unmanageable, just irritating, but I am worried that this headache could signal a more serious problem. I have also been much more fatigued than usual, to the point where I take naps most afternoons. Besides the fatigue, I have not noticed any other accompanying symptoms. I do not have health insurance at this time, so I am trying to avoid going to the doctor if at all possible because I am sure he would want to get a CT scan. However, I am getting more and more concerned the longer this headache lasts. It has been almost 2 months now. Do you have any ideas about what this could be? Thanks in advance for your help.

Kristen,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-
I understand the issues of not having insurance to cover seing the doctor. Was in that situation myself for several years. However, as much as I'd love to be able to answer your question, the only person who can safely do that is a doctor who can review your and your family's medical history, discuss your symptoms with you, and conduct a complete examination. Nobody can diagnose via the Internet. There are many possible diagnoses here, but it's impossible to even venture a guess via the Internet.

Unexplained headaches do need to be checked out, especially when they go on as yours has. Please see your doctor, and keep me posted?

Welcome again,
Teri

Hey there- I'm sorry I'm going to type a brief message because my 10 mos old daughter is at my feet but saw your message and had to write something. I am a 28 year old female and have had a non-stop headache/migraine for about 10 mos now since my daughter was born. I just got the diagnosis of "New Daily Persistant Headache", it is like chronic migraine but often you can pinpoint exactly when it started. Which I can, at 38 weeks of pregancy. I had been on Topamax and zoloft and had now relief and they just switched me 3 days ago to Zonegran and Wellbutrin plus a steriod pack to break the cycle. I feel 40% better which is huge for me. Goggle my diagnosis and see if it fits. Our only difference is that I have no sinus condition. But I have no break in headache and it is in the frontal/temporal areas of my head. I feel like I am walking around with my head in a vice. I am seeing my neurologist on Thursday to discuss further options now that I finally have a diagnosis, he also wants to do a lumbar tap to make sure I  don't have too much spinal fluid. I have had an MRI and what not done, all normal. Hope this helps. Keep me posted.

Also, I agree you need to see a doctor.  The past 10 mos has been hell for me and it took 10 mos to reach this diagnosis. Granted I breastfed for 7 months and have only been trying out different meds for the past 4 or so months but you need support. DOn't let it get as bad as I did. I am normally a cheerful person and really this has led me to a dark place, chronic pain can affect you in bad ways. Just because my diagnosis might fit you it doesn't rule out other possibilities and you need some meds for now till you feel better.
