Q: Just read an interesting article on a "new" headache prevention medicine being studies right now. It used an analogue of LSD that doesn't cause hallucinations to stop/prevent them.

While the study was for cluster headaches, it may also work on migraines since there is a serotonin connection. LSD is mistaken for serotonin and it binds to most 5-HT receptors. This may be interesting to follow.

"There seems to be a long-term prophylactic effect that we cannot explain," Halpern says. The team has since treated a seventh patient with similar results. "Compared to what these headache sufferers currently have available to them, this is quite remarkable. It could lead to a near-cure-like treatment", Halpern says."

t2000kw,

This type of medication has been under study for cluster headaches for several years now. I doubt that much is going to come of this work unless larger studies are performed. Seven patients barely scratches the surface of showing enough evidence for this to become an approved treatment.
