Tuesday, October 27, 2009 chronic migraine sufferer asks

Q: why aren't nerve block treatments more readily available when it is proven they work?

i have had to travel 3 hrs by air to access a treatment that works for me (nerve block).  there is a 1 year wait to access it closer to home and i can't afford time or money to travel every few months to get relief.

I hear you! When I needed a Migraine specialist, I drove eight hours each direction. I still drive that distance or fly to Dallas for my specialist check-ups and prescription renewals.

It's not really an issue of the treatment being available as much as an issue of a shortage of Migraine specialsts. Most other doctors simply don't know much about the treatment of Migraine in general, let alone the expertise to do effective nerve blocks for Migraine.

I have no idea where you live or where you have to travel to, but if you'd like to see if you can find a specialist closer to you, you can check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

I hope this helps a bit,

Teri
