Hi

Since I started Topamax I noticed a warm sensation in my head and face.It has been 3 weeks not and it has gotten worse ,it is now a burning sensation that is starting to really bother me.Has anyone else experienced this?If so does it go away?If not should I stop the pills? I spoke to my Dr and it appears its not a side effect.

Any info would be appreciated

Lee,

You're not the only person to ask this question. It was also asked HERE.

How much Topamax are you taking. According to the prescribing information, you should have started at 25 mg per day. At the end of three weeks, you would be at 75mg per week. Side effects may or may not stop over time.

Do NOT stop taking Topamax without doctor's supervision. You must taper down and off. Stoppit it cold can actually cause seizures.

In my experience, NO, it does NOT go away.  When I told my doctor about the burning he insisted I wasn't taking enough.  The stronger the dose, the worse the burning got. I finally weened myself off of it since he wouldn't listen.  Burning is finally pretty much gone, but it took about 6 weeks for it to get to this point and an acupuncture session. That has done me more good than anything and I'm going to continue with it. They believe it will totally get rid of my migraines after some sessions.  Which is better than just treating the pain. I want the root of them taken care of.  Please try to find something else before you end up living with nightly icepacks. Good luck and God bless!Innocent

Dear Browneyedkygurl,

You mentioned acupuncture, believing it will "totally get rid of" your Migraines, and wanting to get "the root of them care of." I'm really glad teh acupuncture is helping you. Still, I want to be sure that you realize what you're dealing with here. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease. Neither acupuncture nor anything else can totallly get rid of them because we don't have a cure for the disease at this time. It's possible to find treatments that will prevent most of them, but not to totally get rid of them forever. The "root" of the Migraines is genetics, which predisposes us to Migraines when we encounter our triggers.

Hope this helps and that the acupuncture continues to help you.

My doctor did not inform me about any side effects of Topamax besides weight loss. I am getting off of it because of how negative the side effects have been for me, but I think it is different with everyone. I noticed a tingling in my hands and especially my feet. I think it is from the Topamax. It felt like my feet were falling asleep.

I don't know what dosage you are on but just watch for mental changes. I felt like I became a different person on Topamax. It made me extremely anxious and paranoid. Please don't let me scare you, it may be the perfect medication for you.
