Want to be MIGRAINE FREE someday!!!

This is my first time visiting this website and I just became a...

I read about someone who tried it and stated the side effect about the tightness in the chest, neck and it took about 40 minutes to work.  I take 100mg., of Imitrex and it works much sooner than that, usually within 20 minutes.  But I notice it is not working as well as it was before, maybe my body is used to this medication.

When I went to the urgent care yesterday the doctor stated that what I probably had was a Tension headache, and gave me the shot of toradol, which took more than an hour to work and did not help that much. Usually when I go to the actual E.R. I get two shots and within maybe 30 minutes I feel so much better.  Today I still have a pain and tightness around my left ear and skull. When I turn my head I feel dizzy and nauseated. He also prescribed Lortab, but I have not taken yet, since I feel so sick to my stomach.

It is so hard to figure out what kind of MIGRAINE (headache) you have, when your whole head feels like it is going to burst open along with the pain in my whole left side, left eye, and especially the neck area behind my ear... it is a HORRIFIC pain.

Hi Martiewpb!

I haven't tried Treximet, but come over to our discussion forum and talk to other people who have. We also have discussions there on different medications used for Migraine disease. You can get there by following this link to the forum

To get to the forum, just look for the orange box marked 'Manage' and click on the Migraine Forums link. Because our forums are maintained by a third party, you'll need to register for the forum. You can use the same information you used to create your community log-in if you like. If you want to go directly to the forum, you can click HERE.

With any medication we take, there may be potential side effects but this shouldn't stop us from trying new medicines. Each medication may impact a patient differently. We do have some information on Tension-Type Headache, but a Migraine and headache specialist is the best option to diagnose which type of Migraine or headache disorder you may have. Tension-Type Headaches - The Basics is very informative. And our patient recommended list can be found HERE.

Good Luck!

I have taken Treximet, I love it bcuz it keeps my migranes away for longer periods of time. Imitrex does seem to take a shorter time to react but also seems to keep the migranes coming back weekly where Treximet keeps them away. I also use ice every time i have a migrane, using both seems to be a life saver.

I feel this is the only thing that helps my migraines. 50 mil of Imitrex was not enough and sometimes 100 mil was too much. The combination seems to help mine if I do not awake with one. The only drawback is it could possibly help more people without the blue dye. Our daughter cannot take it due to an allergy of the dye.
