Q: Do migraines usually increase during menopause?

I've been going through perimenopause for the last possibley 10 years, I haven't had a period now for 2 years.  So I presume that I have reached menopause with hot flashes that I curb by using natural progesterone cream ( wild yam + herbs).  Any way, it seems as though my migraines have gotten much more frequent in the last couple of years.  Is this common?

I have just started perimenopause last year and my migraines have definitely increased with the hormone fluctuations, like it usually does for migraineurs. But once the hormones stabilise and you enter menopause, migraines are supposed to dwindle and eventually disappear  for most women. Again,it varies from person to person. I have heard that a mild dose of H.R.T is beneficial for people who still get migraines after menopause. You should consult a good neurophysician and see what can be done to help. Studies on hormone replacement therapy for treatment of migraine is currently being done. Good luck!Smile
