Q: What pain meds and abortives are safe during breastfeeding?

My daughter is 3 weeks old and we are breastfeeding very well.  I have had 7 migraines in the 3 weeks after delivery and have tried Midrin and Fioricet.  In the past I have not had a response to the triptan family and have had some relief with Stadol NS, Percocet, and Toradol.  Are there any medications that are safe if passed through breastmilk?

Hi Hopeful,

We have an Ask the Clinician question:  Hydrocodone for headaches & Migraines while breastfeeding?  and article about this topic you can find HERE.

Always discuss the benefits vs. the risks with your doctor.

Good luck
