Hi Jermom,

Do you mean help with Migraines just in the grocery store, or in general? Sunglasses is a good idea, I've worn mine often. I make sure I haven't skipped a meal and am not dehydrated.

I wear my sunglasses into the grocery store in the day time because mine are prescription. However, I also notice that on rainy days or evenings that many stores have very bright lights, uneven lighting and flourescent lighting, all migraine triggers for me. I have had folks act offended or ask why I am wearing dark glasses and I will tell them the facts, that the store lights can trigger a migraine for me.  Some folks swear by the gradient tinted lenses, and others by the tint-change lense, but I don't have information on these. Best of luck!

If I am having a flare up I have to wear them most everywhere hoping it is a sunny day and people think I just forgot to take them off....especially when I've been in Wal-Mart or Sam's I think the lighting reflects off the generally bright white floor (as it did when working in the hospital) and in a few minutes it can do me in. Hope that helps.

Hi I'm a migraine suffer who is not allowed to wear tinted sunglasses to work at Walmart  but I work there as a cashier we have no right to say any thing to you about your glasses you can go to management and complane that is your right.Right now I'm suffering from one because last night a few of the bulb were gere getting ready to blow over where I was working and it was like flickingit's also like cops cars lights will trigger a migraine in a heart beat for me to- the only problem I have with sunglassess on customers at work is if they are pololized becaused then you can noy see the box where you have to sign your name till you lift them for a minute.

       Sorry for the honesty.

I can understand your frustration, unfortunately polarized lenses are the only ones that help me. However, I try to be courteous enough to flip them on top of my head so I don't keep the whole line waiting trying to sign the machine, you also can't see to pump gas, it cust out the digital box. Under ADA would you not be able to use a tinted lense if you went to the eye doc -- I had done this and they made a pair witha tint in them and anti reflective/glare coating. This helped with the lighting at theh hospital and btw people thought it was stylish...not expecting that...I had a tan tint in my suttle with the glare protection. Sinec they were dispened via the doc nobody could do anything abou that.

Be sure to really inspect the tinted colors available. Some of them actually aggravated me (yellows). Greys made it too difficult to really focus on what I was seeing, but we found for me personally a light mixing of the rose tint with some brown (so light it was a tan color mixed with rose) gave me some relief. It did take the doc three times back and foth to the lab because the first was way to dark, the second color not compatible, but third time was a charm with a slightly rose/tan tint. The anti glare/reflective coat was essential. Pearle Vision did a great job with mine (FYI). Also a polarized lens cuts the glare and does work miracles. If you have rx sunglasses it is the way to go. I don't know if they can polarize a clear lense, if they could, I'd be sold! Maui Jim polarized lenses were previously the only ones I could wear until I did the polarized sunglass at Pearle Vision.

GOOD LUCK!

Anywhere there are florescent lights -- particularly if poorly maintained and liable to have a flickering one or two -- I have to wear tinted glasses.

Thank you all!  Good to hear I'm not alone I guess.  The sunglasses have to look better than the frown everyone would see if I wasn't wearing them!  lol

Hi!

Yes, there are many places that I have to use sunglasses.  Funny that you mentioned WalMart, because my FAVORITE glasses are from there--they are polarized (merely remove when signing the credit card machine!), UVA and UVB protected, AND they fit over eyeglasses and no light gets into the sides, top or bottom due to "shields."  They are called Solar Shielf and cost about $18-$20 at Walmart.  Soemtimes I wear them around teh clock. Very comfortable, and tint that does not make me nauseated like some  sunglasses.

Just want to let you know you are so right. I work in a grocery store... I have worked there 34 years and have had migraines for 35 years.  I keep asking them to conserve, by lowering the lighting but to no surprise, it hasn't happened...Frown

Sometimes I have to wear sunglasses in Wal-Mart and other stores because they are too bright and glare is one of my worst triggers. don't feel bad - you will look like a movie star LOL! Last night I turned on a lamp and it was like I had been slammed back 3 feet because I was looking at the lamp when it came on. Ordinarily that would not happen, but I had been out with a migraine all day.

Hi Jermom I think we have all worn our sunglasses in strange places as a matter of survival! Of course any light can be challenging when you have a migraine, perhaps it is the florescent lights, they are definitely a trigger for me. I even sometimes wear mine at night. Sunglasses are just a necessary trick of the trade. Jenny Reply
