Hello, Annie,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•* Welcome to HealthCentral! *•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-

Just to clarify, for others who may be reading too, some of the medications you've listed aren't abortive medications. Benadryl, Norflex, Keppra, and Depacon aren't usually abortives. You mentioned a "triple shot." Does that mean that you had three of those medications in an injection? Where? The ER?

Have you called your doctor? Migraines that aren't responding to treatment are termed intractable. Sometimes, a steroid taper such as a Medrol DosePack will break the Migraine. Sometimes, the best treatment for intractable Migraines that aren't responding to medications is IV infusion therapy to get the cycle broken. For some people, an IV infusion of simple magnesium sulfate will break the Migraine. Sometimes, it takes other medications. Some doctors are set up to do IV infusions in their offices; some need to send you to an infusion center at the hospital or the ER. For more information, see IV Treatment of Refractory Migraine.

I'd definitely call today. You don't want to get any closer to the weekend without getting this Migraine broken.
Please keep us posted?
Teri

Hi, Terri!  (too long since we've talked - *smile*

Girl, I was reading your post about "Medrol".  I don't know if my pack is the same thing (MethylPrednisolone). I took six, last night and five today.  My HEAD is killing me.  Yes, it's a bonifide MIGRAINE. I'm about to take the roxicet and phenergan.  I hate taking the roxicet, but insurance doesn't cover percocet 10/325.  Go figure.  They will pay for something stronger, but won't pay for something that works.

Hi, Annie,

Last night & this morning, I took prednisone pack for issues with my knees.  Little did I know that I would get a MIGRAINE.  Weather (barometric pressure falling - below 30) is usually the culprit - not this time.  anyway. . .this is what I usually do (it works for me - clear with your doc before doing it)

Instead of me taking the regular dose (1 pill), I take double (two) with my CAN of ice cold Diet Pepsi (it only works when I have a migraine - don't drink the stuff if you don't have a migraine - it could trigger one) a little meal (nothing real heavy) AND a phenergan suppository.  Lay down in a dark, pretty quiet room.  TV can be on with something that you like that is soothing.

Hope it works for you.  I'm on my way to my routine, right now.  I'll check back soon to let you know how long it took for mine to calm down - this time.  GOOD LUCK!

I've had two attacks in a row, a break, one more a 2-day break, another and now my head just feels like all the way around is painful. I hadn't thought about intractable migraine. My problem though is my former neurologist isn't seeing me any more and my new neurologist I don't see for the first time until September. I do, however, have an appointment with a pain management doctor on Monday, so maybe he can prescribe something to put an end to it. Yes, it will be another long weekend for me.

I, too, often suffer from migraine attacks that just won't break with regular meds. Steroid dose packs often do the trick. Phenergan suppositories are also life savers, even if I'm not on the verge of throwing up, they help me sleep. And the last time I was in the ER, they topped everything off with ativan. And it did work.

I am curious about the "triple shot" you mention. Right now, I take DHE and ketorolac injections, but ketorolac is unavailable right now, so I'm interested in alternatives until it comes back on the market.

Good luck!

My name is susan and i deal with migraines as well. I go to the diamond clinic in Chicago. I have had the triple sec shot. It consists of Halidol Adivane and a thrid drug that i do not remeber the name to but its purpose is to reduce side affects of the other two drugs. I hope this helps.
