I'm not sure of the exact time but when I detoxed from imitrex over use (which spanned two years at least) I gave it a good 4 months and then just kept not taking it to be safe. It was really hard. I just tried to be as productive as possible when I was feeling well and got a perscription to lunesta so that I could sleep when the pain got too much to handle.
