Q: I just was diagnosed with sever migrains that never go away, and the amerge medication the doc gave

me doesn't work.  It actually makes the migrain worse.  Is that normal?  Im going in for a nerve block tomorrow, what do you think i should ask him when i go to my appointment? I can't deal with this anymore.  I have tried most all the medication you can try and still haven't found anything that works.

Chris,

Sorry I didn't get back to you before your appointment.  Hope it went well.

Amerge is one of seven triptan medications. They all work a bit differently, so it's well worth trying the others. Your doctor should have samples of them that you could try before filling a prescription.

Since you said your Migraines never go away, how many days a week are you using medications for them? Taking Migraine abortive meds such as the triptans or ergotamines or any kind of pain med more than two or three days a week can make matters worse by causing medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. See Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires for more information on this.

Good luck,

Teri
