Ok here's the thing - Lortab is not an abortive medication - it is a rescue medication.
If you're taking lortab for pain, not to get "high" that's not addiction. It may be dependence, but not addiction. You can read more about the difference in Opioids: Addiction vs. Dependence.
Preventive medication is taken daily to try and reduce the severity and frequency of your Migraine attacks. Anyone who has more than three Migraine attacks a month, ought to think about talking to their doctor about Migraine prevention. Abortives stop the Migrainous process. These include Imitrex, Midrin and other. Rescue medications are pain relievers and NSAIDS taken only when aborts fail or can't be taken(whihc is fairly rare.) This article: Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Disfference? will help explain the difference between the three different medications Migraineurs need in their "toolbox."
If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.
