Hi sufferer 60,

I'm sorry it has taken so long to answer you. Here is the information you may be looking for: Occipital Neuralgia (ON) can be described as piercing, throbbing, or electric-shock-like chronic pain in the upper neck, back of the head, and behind the ears, usually on one side of the head.  ON pain may begin in the neck and then spreads upwards.  Some individuals will also experience pain in the scalp, forehead, and behind the eyes.

Take a look at this question about ON Information on occipital neuralgia?

I hope this helps. If not let me know, ok?

Nancy

Thank you so much, Nancy!  You hit the nail on the head, and this is exactly what I feel, though before knowing what it is I've been using an ice bag to numb the area, mostly at night; now my doctors (the primary physician and my ophtalmologist) recommended and have reffered me to the anesthesilogist that might be able to give me the steroid shot to block the nerve pain.  And, hopefully if this treatment has worked with the bursitis on my shoulder it will also work for the ON.  Again, I'm grateful for your help!
