Q: Migraine week + long and elevated sugar levels from pain

I have been dealing with a migrane for over a week now. I can't afford Maxalt as we have no insurance and don't qualify for medicaid. I am allergic to Imatrex and similar medications,Topamax and Lyrica didn't work;so I have been taking midrin, and a 3 combination pill that is narcotic nothing is working. As a result my sugar levels are escalating. I am prediabetic my normal levels are 103-118, tonight it is 178 and my head is explosive as is the nausea and now acid reflux from it. How can I lower my pain? as well as my sugar which is elevating from the pain? I am not on any diabetic meds. Please contact me with help.

Mmerth,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-

I'm sorry, but nobody can safely advise you via the Internet on what to do for your pain and your glucose levels. The only person who can safely and accurately do that is a doctor who can review your and your family's medical history, discuss your symptoms with you, and conduct a complete examination.

One thing I don't understand is that you mention not being able to afford Maxalt, but then say you're allergic to Imitrex and similar medications. Maxalt is one of the medications in the same family as Imitrex.

I know how difficult it is to have no insurance and have difficulty getting medical care. Been there myself. I'd suggest checking into programs that offer free or low-cost medications and medical care. For more information on this, see

Partnership for Prescription Assistance: Helping Those Who Can't Afford Medications and Health Care.

I hope this helps.

Welcome again,

Teri

Thanks Terri, actually I called my Dr in the middle of this he sent me to a clinic who did the 3 month sugar test and yes it showed in the mid 120's overall for 3 to 4 months (Florida Clinical Lab Clinic does the test for $10 on Tues) saw the Dr yesterday to be put on Mediform?? for Diabetes. First time to actually have the DX, he informed me that it was hard to know which spiked which the headache spiking sugar or vs a vrsa. When my head was at the worst stage he informed me I should have gone to the Hospital (didn't want the cost with no income at this time) and if it ever gets that bad again to go to the hospital as at that point it was my sugar putting my body into shock. I am learning. Was unaware that Maxalt was in the same family only love the fact that it worked with no side effects except to be pain free. Thank you for your advice and concern.
