Q: Can the sharp jab like pains in my right temple be associated with hypothyroid disease?

47 year old male, Diagnosed with hypothryoid disease in July 08, still not "under control" as levels may rise suddenly or as is the case now, go below the range (.22 TSH right now). I am on 112mcg's of synthroid as of two days ago, previously 125mcgs. I suffer greatly from insomnia when there is the slightest increase or decrease in my TSH level. Recently (3-4 weeks) I have been experiencing moderate sharp/jab like pains in and around my right temple, sometimes causing me to just have to stop doing whatever I'm doing and hold my head. Are the pains in my temple associated with the treatment or the disease. Thyroid disease is common in my family (all male members btw) and now one brother has been diagnosed with Lupus.

Hi,

Migraine disease and thyroid issues may be co-morbid conditions. This means they can occur together but are not caused by one another. Headache is often one of the symptoms of thyroid disease.  We have more information on this topic in the article: Migraine, Headache, and Thyroid'.

Good luck

Nancy
