Q: Topamax - 2nd try

I was on Topamax a little over a year ago and only kept with it for a few weeks . . . I didn't like the side effects.  I called it 'dope-amax' because of the way it made me feel.  The frequency of my migraines have increased and I'd like to give it another try.  Has anyone came off of it and then went back on? Did you experience the same side effects? The dopiness and weight loss? Were they still as pronounced or seem to not as severe?

I'm sorry to say that this varies so much from person to person that the only way you're going to find out is to try it.

That said, there are over 100 medications that can be used for Migraine prevention. If you have side effects from Topamax that are too much to handle, you still have many, many other options. See Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up! for more information.

Good luck,

Teri

Do you remember how long you were on Topamax before you felt this way?  I am wondering what mg you were taking when you began to feel this way.  I just started on this drug two days ago and the side effects I have read about and what the pharmacists told me have me a bit worried.  Memory Loss?  Falling asleep midsentence?  That is scary!

Today is the first day in 19 days I have gone without a migraine, so I am pretty desperate....18 day long migraine is insane!

Sorry I couldn't answer your question, but like you, I am worried about the side effects.  Good luck and I hope you find some relief soon!!!  =)

I was on Topamax for 4 months and came off of it, because I felt I probably didn't need it anymore.  Boy was I stupid!  I was started back on 100mg. immedi. and have been on it ever since.  This is my choice.
