Q: aura and potassium gluconate

I have aura 4 to 5x's a month for a number of years (since 60yo), but no headache. A cold scalp seems to be a trigger and so I wear a warm cap.  Over two hours at a CRT on-line can bring aura on.  I take Potassium Gluconate 595 mg daily. Could this be helping in that a headache is absent?  In early 1970's had severe headache only, but knocked it out with Tedrol.  That med is no longer available.  Still, with just the 20+ minutes of an aura it's a kind of blessing.  However, would rather have nothing, to be sure.

Hello, Chuck,

Interesting question, but I've not been able to find an answer for you. We know of several supplements that can help prevent Migraine, but I'm not finding any information about using potassium supplements for this purpose. It certainly couldn't hurt to ask your doctor if he's heard of any connection.

Hope it continues to help you,

Teri

Thanks.  A recent reading on gluconate helping the problem prompted the response.

Chuck,

Do you by chance mean that you read about glucamate? That's entirely different. Maybe you read this -- Could Glutamate Be a New Key to Migraine Treatment?

Glutamate is a nerotransmitter, a chemical in the brain.
