Q: My daughter is 8 years old and has a had a continuous headache for 26 days now.

It started with the flu, but headaches have remained and got worse - no break from the headache morning, noon or night. She says it's across her forehead and sometimes travels down her nose. She is very pale and looks unwell, not coping very well and not sleeping. Had MRI scan and all clear - no sinusitis either. Told post-viral but had no advice. Are there any organisations that can help? PLEASE HELP!!

I don't know of any organizations to help with this type of situation.

Nobody can diagnose via the Internet, but we can share information. Of the many types of headache, one that your daughter's symptoms fit is new daily persistent headache. You can read more about that in New Daily Persistent Headache - The Basics.

When her doctor told you it was post-viral, had he done a spinal tap to rule out things such as meningitis? If her doctor isn't able to help, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Please, keep me posted on how she's doing?

Welcome again,

Teri
