Migraines for almost 2 years 1 x/mo, now 2 to 4 x/mo. no ins.

I have debilitating migraines about once a month, and lasting for days. I have no Health Insurance. I am on a low fixed income and go to a local reduced fee clinic for my medical care. I never see the same doctor twice, even if requested. Therefore, as far as my migraine treatment, I get very confusing & sometimes conflicting advise, and constant changes in medication or medical treatments. Any Advise?

I am so sorry.  Having consistent care is vital for your migraine management as you well know.  I don't really have an answer for you, just a suggestion maybe.  You might be able to call around to some of the local doctors in your area and see if they offer reduced rates based on your income.  A  lot of Primary Care Physicians are doing this now because of the amount of people who have lost their insurance.  Mine did.  I was paying over a hundred dollars per visit and they recently began a program for uninsured patients.  I now pay less than $30 per visit.  Huge savings!  Also, I obtain my meds through patient assistance programs.  This also saves me a ton of money.  You can check out NeedyMeds.com to see if the medication you take for your migraines is covered.  I hope this helps.  I know it's not a direct answer, however, it may at least give you some other direction to go.  Good luck.

Thank you so much for your response. As far as my medications, many of the big name superstores in my area, like Walmart, K-mart, Costco, Pathmark, etc... have $4.00 generic plans available. The only problem for me is at this clinic, I always see a different doctor, and most want to try different meds or treatments. I agree 100% with you on having consistent care for migraine management, and that's what I need the most. I will definately start calling some local doctors in my area to see if some are reducing their fee's for uninsured patients. I never thought of that, yet my dentist does it!! Thank you so much for such a great suggestion. I really appreciate it!!

there was a program montel williams was associated with PARTNERSHIP FOR.... PROVIDED FREE or low cost prescriptions, i would also get current info from this site , print it and bring it with me for ideas for treatment, ie most current preventatives , abortives, etc.. I know that may sound overwhelming, but people share alot. Also the trials for drugs and treatments are usually free and often include testing and follow up , etc. so that would be great for you. I know some one who was getting free botox and dr.s visits thru a clinical trial. Hang in there. Also check out the vitamins , and make sure you are doing those as well, ie the B's, magnesium etc, anything you can do holistic yourself. I have tried butterbur and feverfew and that was a waste of money. The climate does seem to be changing and I would keep an eye on local news, web sites for low cost medical care resources. Good luck. don't forget to ask for samples at dr.s visits and now you can even call the drug manufactures and sometimes they will help. hope some of this helps
