Valorie,

It's most likely an issue of encountering triggers at school that she doesn't encounter at home -- lighting, funes from cleaning products, etc. It could also be sleep patterns. Are her sleep patterns different during the school year? How about eating patterns?

One of the best tools for identifying triggers is a good Migraine diary. You can download a free diary workbook from our article Your Migraine and Headache Diary. Some of us have food triggers; some of us don't. It's advisable to determine if your daughter does, and an elimination diet is the best way to do that. For more information and a workbook on this, see Managing Migraine - Migraine Trigger Foods.

One Migraine a week definitely puts your daughter into the area of checkout Migraine preventives. Anyone who has more than three Migraines a month needs to be taking something for prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.

I am new to this board.  I just posted my first question.  Both my kids have migraines as well and they are only 8 and 10.  My son is going on his 6th year now.  I have noticed that my kids get many more migraines during the school year, and way less in the summer.  I truly believe it is the stress of all the schoolwork, homework, hectic schedule, and being in flourescent lighting all day.   Plus staring at the computer screens in lab an hour at school doesn't help.  My daughter was crying last night about how she gets just a regular headache every day right after computer lab.  Both my kids had migraines this week.  It's such a nightmare.  Maybe we'll get a break this summer a bit.  We could sure use it.  Good luck !
