I have had migraines or @ lest 21 years. The last 10 I have used Zomig 2.5-5mg for onset. Recently Imitrex 100mg along with the 2 preventive meds above. I have gained 20 lbs since starting the Nortriptyline and Inderal. I am so tired of having headaches determine how my day is going to be. I would really like some input on the botox injections for relief or less frequency. We spend over $500 a month on migraine preventive and treatment onset medicine a month. Please offer advice! Also tried Topomax for over a year 3 years ago, did not seem to help.

Hi Mamadeb!

If you have been on the Nortiptyline and Ideral for 6 months and it doesn't seem to be working, then I would check with your doctor about either tweaking your dosage or trying something new.

One potential side effect of Nortiptyline is weight gain.

As far as Botox goes, give it a shot! I would think you would still want to find a preventive medication as well though.

You can find more info about botox in this article: Intradermal Botox for Migraine, Headache, Pain Disorders.

Good Luck!
