Has anyone had luck using a compounding pharmacy to duplicate cafergot? I've had one pharmacist tell me he could not get ergotamine tartrate and another saying she probably could but that she would get back to me - I'm waiting with fingers crossed.

Have you tried any other ergotamine Migraine abortive medications such as Migranal Nasal Spray and D.H.E. 45 (injection)?
FDA drugs has information on ergotamine that may be helpful. Maybe others will be along to let you know if their pharmacies are able to compound it. I don't use it, so don't really know. I do know it has and may continue to be discontinued.

I had a compounding pharmacy make it for me. It did not work. I have no idea why. They say it was the same. But I kept taking it and thinking that I had become immune to the drug since it never worked anymore. However, months later I went back to regular Cafergot and the generic ergotamine caffeine (not from a compounbding pharmacy) and it worked just fine. Pleae let me know where I can get cafergot. Thanks

I just wanted you to know that I did have a compounding pharmacy in Sacramento make the cafergot for me and It works wonderfully. I would suggest trying another pharmacy. This one that I used has been around since 1959 and has an impeccable reputation. I would go make sure that the pharmacy is a member of the International academy of International compounding Pharmacists. You can look up their website. Good Luck!

Hi Nancy,
Thank you for responding to my question. My doctor faxed over a prescription to a compounding pharmacy this morning and I should know by tomorrow whether or not they have any egotamine tartrate in stock to compound. I also checked on Migranal which I used a few years ago - 8 vials now cost over $700.00 with my insurance discount (I have a high decductable.) I have not heard of D.H.E. 45 but I will check it out. Thank you so much for the information. I will let you and forum know what what the results are with the compounding pharmacy. I'm hoping and praying that they come through.
