Hi Debbie,

Topamax is not the only Migraine prevention drug available, although it is the one we hear the most about. There are over 100 different medications to treat Migraine, so try not to get too discouraged. When you add up all the combinations, the numbers go up dramatically. This article has more information for you: Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

Zomig, a medication that aborts the Migraine process, is not meant to be taken on a daily basis. This can lead to other types of headache disorders like Medication  overuse disorder (MOH). This may occur when we take certain OTC and/or prescription medications more than two to three days a week. If we have MOH no prevention medication on earth, like Topamax, will work. We have more information on this type of headadche in this article: Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires

Recently studies have indicated that medication oversue headache is a factor in 80% of people with Transformed Migraine (TM). If you already have MOH, and I'm not suggesting you do, than this may increase the risk of another type of Migraine. The article talks about triptans (which Zomig is) not being a big risk factor, but that's only IF there are few headache days. Transformed Migraine - Risk Increased by Some Medication has more information.

Good luck

Nancy
