Hi JENNI,

Have you ever had an aura this long before? If not, please contact your doctor and let him know right away that your Migraine pattern has changed and you have had this aura for over seven days. Only a qualified doctor can help you with this, what we can do is give you information and support.

Please let us know how you make out, ok?

Good luck

Nancy

NO A NORMAL MIGRAINE FOR ME THE AURA USUALLY LASTS ABOUT 30 MINUTES THEN THE HEADACHE. I'VE HAD MIGRAINES WITH THE AURA FOR AY LEAST 25 YEARS. THIS ONE HIT LAST SUNDAY. ITS LIKE STATIC IN MY VISION ALL THE TIME THEN EVERY COUPLE HOURS AT THE VERY LEAST I'LL GET THE NORMAL AURA AND THE HEADACHE. BUT THERE IS ALWAYS SOME SORT OF FLASHING LIGHT. I LOOK AT SOMEONE IN THE FACE AND CAN'T SEE THEIR RIGHT EYE.

Jenni,l have aura always with my migraines and it lasts alot longer than half an hr,maybe 3 hrs,but l,ve noiticed and my husband has too, that l am unable to take medication. My last migraine a Doc suggested l took a cocktail of different medication ,where my husband had to inject me with it.The Aura was the same and the extreme pain but it did help my vomiting, but after the migraine finished l had like an aura symptoms for nearly up to 2wks later,l personally think it was because of the medication l took.l would maybe check the medication you are taking isn,t affecting you, because alot of migraine sufferers have an intolerance, and get affected by the side affects.l hope this may help you.Antonina

I DIDN'T START TAKING MEDS TILL LAST SUNDAY THE DAY IT STARTED. I TOOK MIDRIN AFTER IT STARTED. MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED THEM TO ME WELL OVER A MONTH AGO BUT UNFORTUNATELY AUGUST 27TH I HAD A HEART ATTACK. YES AT AGE 34. NOT YOUR NORMAL ARTERY CLOGGED ATTACK. I HAD A HEART SPASM. I'M NOW ON HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION AND HAVE BEEN FOR A MONTH NOW. HASN'T BEEN THE GREATEST MONTH FOR ME!! I CALLED THE CLINIC THIS MORNING AND LEFT A MESSAGE FOR MY DOCTOR THAT I STILL HAVE THE AURA AND LIGHTS BUT SHE STILL HASN'T GOT BACK TO ME. IT'S BEEN OVER 8 DAYS NOW SINCE THE MIGRAINE/AURA STARTED. NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO DO.

Jenni,Please change your Doc,she sounds a waste of time,l live in Greece, here if your not feeling well you can go into the hospital(Goverment not private)especially if you have suffered a heart attack, migraine sometimes happen if there something not right almost like a warning sign.l think they should check you out.Are you sure your heart is alright.l have M.V.P.S,and you can have migraines with that, with my condition l do suffer from some symptoms but l won,t die with it,because l have low blood pressure. Some people have other M.V.P(mitral value prolapse)Which is much more serious, but you would need tests, please get some down, and change your Doc,Antonina.

WELL MY DOCTOR'S NURSE CALLED THIS MORNING AND SAID THERE'S NOT ANYTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO. I NEED TO SEE THE NEUROLOGIST WHICH MY APPOINTMENT ISN'T TILL OCTOBER 21ST. TRIED GETTING IN EARLIER THERE BUT HE'S LEAVING FOR VACATION TODAY FOR TWO WEEKS. STRIKING OUT EVERY WHICH WAY I TURN!!! WELL SINCE THE CT SCAN CAME BACK GOOD HOPEFULLY THIS IS JUST A LONG RUNNING MIGRAINE. I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION. SINCE THIS ALL HAPPENED MY TASTE HAS BEEN WEIRD. MAINLY FIZZY LIKE POP. I TAKE A DRINK AND ITS FLAT THEN THE FIZZ BUT MORE HARSH. BEER FORGET IT!! IT TASTES FLAT THEN REALLY FIZZY WITH A BITTER AND SWEET TASTE. ANYONE ELSE GETTING THIS KIND OF SIDE EFFECT FROM THE MIGRAINE MEDS OR AM I JUST REALLY MESSED UP???

STILL HAVE THE LIGHT. ITS BEEN 15 DAYS NOW. NOT SURE IF THIS IS A EVEN MIGRAINE ANYMORE. JUST MIMICKING ONE?? MY AURAS ALWAYS STARTED ON THE LEFT WHERE THIS LITTLE LIGHT ALWAYS IS NOW. NOW WHEN I GET A HEADACHE MIGRAINE BESIDES THIS LIGHT THING THE AURA STARTS ON THE RIGHT.  I STOPPED ALL MEDS LAST WEEK EXCEPT MY HEART MED SINCE THEY WEREN'T HELPING AND GOT MY TASTE BACK AT LEAST!! SO TOPOMAX OR MIDRIN I FOUND HAS A TASTE SIDE EFFECT.

Jenni,

You stopped taking Topamax on your own? That can be very dangerous. It should never be discontinued without a doctor's supervision because abruptly discontinuing it can actually cause seizures.

Did you read and keep the patient information that came with your Topamax prescription? Altered taste is a very common side effect, and it would have been listed on the patient information that came with your prescription.

Please, be very careful with yourself,

Teri

PS: Just a little tip -- typing in all caps online is considered shouting, and it's harder to read.

I was on it for only about a week and yes it was ok'd by my doctor being it was causing that kind of a side effect.  Sorry about the all caps, just the way i usually type which is not often.

Jenni,

Thanks for letting me know. I'm so glad to know that your doctor at least helped you with that. Hopefully, the taste issue will clear up shortly if it hasn't already.

Please keep us posted?

Teri

Well I FINALLY had my appointment with the neurologist last Wednesday. Yes my vision is still obstructed and its been about a month now. He's thinking the day this started I may have had a small stroke. He ordered a brain MRI which I get done this Wednesday. So we'll see what happens with that. Just keeping you posted. Oh and yes I got my taste back! My neurologist said the Topamax was to blame. He said its been a while since anyone has brought that up but it is a side effect.

IMITREX CAN CAUSE HEART SPASMS SO I CAN'T TAKE IT. MY PROBLEM ISN'T SO MUCH THE HEADACHE, IT'S THE LIGHTS. 70 PERCENT OF THE TIME I HAVE NO HEADACHE. WHEN I DO GET THE HEADACHE THE LIGHTS DOUBLE. IV'E HAD THE STATIC LIKE LIGHTS FOR 9 DAYS STRAIGHT NOW WITH NO BREAK. I FINALLY HAD A CT SCAN TODAY AND IT CAME OUT GOOD. WELL THATS GREAT, BUT NOW WHAT?? I'M TOTALLY LOST.
