Q: Migraines with Auras

I am a 34 years old, and i will be 35 next week. I was diagnosed with severe migraines when i was 14 years old. I have the visual disturbances ( bright zig zag lines), numbness in my face and hands, and confusion. It is really bad. I have dealt with this for so long, and never had a concrete treatment that worked. I was put on Inderal for years, in which it did help where i only had about one every 6-8 months. Then my doctor just yanked me off of them and i was left with nothing. As time has went on, they have gotten worse to the point i have almost had them every day this week. My new doctor put me on metroprolol 25mg ER..and this is day 2. I did have one this morning. Could it be that these have not gotten into my system yet..enough to help prevent..? This is really depressing me badly.

dtsambasis35,

Yes, it's entirely possible that the metoprolol hasn't had time to help yet. It could take a couple of months to know if it's going to work. Also, depending on how your blood pressure does and other factors, if the 25mg dosage doesn't work, your doctor may increase it to see if that helps.
I know how hard it is to wait while we see if preventive medications are going to work for us. Been there many times myself. In fact, I'm in that situation again now. You're definitely not alone.
Please keep me posted, and let me know if we can help with any information or support.
Welcome again,
Teri

If it doesn't help soon, I would change Dr.'s to one that will give you Inderal.

I went to the Mayo Clinic in 1992 and Inderal was the only preventive they had studied and they said it was great.  Inderal didn't help me, but you are lucky it helps/helped you.

So hopefully either the new Rx will help or you will find someone to give you the Inderal.  Good Luck!
