Q: What is wrong with me?

About 4 weeks ago I started having a wierd tightness/pressure feeling above my right temple. It is a dull achy feeling that is always present. Its the same headache. I'm a paralegal and I'm in front of the computer all day. I've been doing this for almost a year and have never had a problem until now. I've been to the doctor twice and they have put me on 2 different medications for tension headaches. I seem to get no relief. I don't have any other symptoms. My family has a history of depression and wondering if maybe this is causing my right temple to hurt.

Nobody can diagnose you via the Internet, but we can share some information that you can discuss with your doctor.

While some aches and pains can accompany deprssion, it is highly unlikely that this is caused by depression.

Statistically, it is most likely to be tension-type headache. Has anything changed in your office -- different lighting, different computer monitor? Does this happen on your days off?

Start keeping a headache diary. That may help you and your doctor spot a pattern thta can be useful for diagnosis and spotting the cause of this headache. You can download a diary workbook from our article Your migraine and headache Diary.

If you've been seeing your family doctor, it's time for a referral to a neurologist.

Good luck,

Teri
