Q: My daughter has a migraine headache associated with terrible dizziness for 6 weeks. Help!

My daughter is 17 and has had a migraine headache associated with terrible dizziness for 6 weeks.  The dizziness is the worst part because she has lost 6 weeks of school and can't read or write.  We are going crazy trying to help.  We went to the Chicago Dizziness Clinic out of Northwestern Memorial and they tested her for 4 hours - all fine.  Now the MRI but they aren't really sure they'll find anything.HELP> HELP!

Leslie,

Does your daughter have a history of Migraine, or is this the first time you've been told she has Migraines? I ask to be sure that this is a Migraine. Sometimes, even doctors will call a severe headache a Migraine, even though it's not.

If this dizziness is a symptom of Migraine, the best doctor for her would be a Migraine specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists. If you're in the Chicago area, there are several excellent specialists there.

Please keep me posted?

Welcome again,

Teri
