Hi tocorter,

By similar do you mean the generic brand, or do you mean same class of medications?

Axert is also know as Almogran and Almotriptan.

Triptans in addition to Axert include: Imitrex, Relpax, Zomig, Maxalt, Frova, Amerge and Treximet which contains sumatriptan and naproxen sodium. These abortive medications work by binding to serotonin receptors. Each of the seven triptans binds to different combinations of serotonin receptors. That's why one may be more effective for a Migraineur than another.

The intended results are the same -- stopping the Migrainous process in the brain, which also stops the symptoms.

I hope that answers your question. If not, please ask again.
