Hi jcoleman,

To make sure I understand you correctly: you've been a Migraine sufferer for quite some time  but for the last three days you've had a Migraine on the left side of your head with swelling, which is different from other Migraine attacks you've had in the past. Do I have that correct?

Ok, facial swelling is not a typical symptom of Migraine. More concerning is the sudden change in your Migraine pattern with additional symptoms- please contact your doctor at once to discuss this, it may be a more serious issue. And may I ask how old you are?

Take a look at this article, Temporal Arteritis and see what you think, but first call your doctor.

Let me know how you doing, ok?

Nancy

Hello Nancy thank you for your feedback and to answer your question yes this did differ from my typical migraine pattern. I recently suffered a concussion i hit my head and lost consciousness could that have anything to do with the facial swelling i had a CT scan but it was normal I personally feel as if the doctor's are missing something. I am 44 yrs old feamle I hope to find a good neurologist to go see so i can know what's really going on.

Hi again,

Did you get a concussion recently?  A CT won't show any "abnormalities" of a mild traumatic brain injury (mtbi) which is exactly what a concussion is. Here are some links for more information for you: Post-traumatic Headache and Concussion - The Basics

The Center for Disease Control also  has excellent information on concussion you can find here: Concussion and MTBI.

If you feel like you need more help, keep asking doctors for it. Someone will listen. If you can find  a doctor who specialized in mtbi in your area are a Migraine specialist that would be great. We have a list of patient recommended Migraine specialists you can get ahold of here Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Let me know how you make out.

Nancy
