I am so sorry to hear about your son. My daughter (age 13) has recently been diagnosed with hemiplegic migrane, after two terryfing episodes. Both times the Dr's in the ER "assume" she is on drugs or has been drinking. Which of course only makes matters worse, and makes me furious!!!  Only after her blood work comes back negitive- they just scratch their heads on what to do. There seem to be very few Doctors who actually understand this and can offer insight. We have seen a specialist with really no better understanding or information that I can find here on the internet. Being from Louisiana my self (not currently living there) I do understand your dilema of finding qualified Doctors. I wish you luck, and can only offer to look "outside" the borders of the state and see about finding him a qualified Dr. within traveling distance that is willing to take his case. But be prepared the wait list is sooo long! We are currently on two different waiting list with Dr's that tell us it will take up to 6 months to get an appmnt. Also, with all of the research that I have done, the ONLY medication that I feel comfortable to give my daughter would be Advil or Motrin... EVERYTHING else seems to have possible severe side effects. I know that Advil/Motrin are not really strong enough to combat all of the symtoms of the Hemiplegic Migrane but be very careful about what he does take! Good Luck.
