Q: Are migrains normal after multiple concussions?

I'm 16 years old and have had two concussions in the same area of my head within 9 months of each other. It has been over 3 months since the second concussion. Since then I have had migraines almost on a daily basis that vary greatly in intensity, affected area, and time. The location of impact on my head is still so sensitive I can't even sleep on my back anymore and have to be gentel brushing my hair in the area. I have had a CT scan which showed no abnormalities. Do you believe these migraines were caused by the concussion? Is it normal to have these kind of symptoms so long after the accident? What do you think I can do to help with the symptoms? Thanks

Has your doctor actually diagnosed you with Migraine, or is this a self-diagnosis? Migraine is a genetic neurological disease. It's not developed as the result of concussion or other head trauma.

On the other had, post-concussive headaches can be very similar to Migraines.

There really is no "normal" to such situations. Some people experience no headaches or Migraines after a head trauma; others still experience them years later. The only person who can do accurately address your questons is a doctor who can review your and your family's medical history, discuss your symptoms with you, and conduct a complete examination. Nobody can diagnose via the Internet.

If your doctor isn't able to help, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special?
