My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Hi shade,

I can't help you with liquid Marijuana never having tired it. But taking certain medications more than two days a week -- including triptans such as Zomig --, a big part of your problem may well be medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. See Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires for more information on this. If you're in an MOH situation, nothing you take is going work, neither prescription nor "natural" medications nor over-the-counter. If this is the case, you need to work with your doctor to stop the medications causing the problem.

Anyone who has three or more Migraines a month needs to be talking with their doctor about prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.

I know how easy it is to feel as if you've tried everything out there, but there are so many medications that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention that it's literally impossible. You can find a list of potential Migraine and headache preventives in Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!

Tending to the current headache or Migraine you've had for three weeks needs to be a priority. When oral medications have failed, IV infusions will often break the cycle. For more information about this, see IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines.

It may be time to see a Migraine specialist. This is the expert who treats patients who suffer from Migraine disease and headache disorders. Think of it like this: when a pipe under the kitchen sink breaks, you call the expert - a plumber. You could call a handyman who can fix the broken pipe, then fix the drain, the cabinets and paint the room if needed. But he isn't the expert you need for your broken pipe. Neurologists may be fine doctors, but treat so many different conditions like MS, stroke, and epilepsy, it is hard for them to be experts in any one area. A Migraine specialist is a expert who only treats people with Migraine and headache disorders. Keep reading for information on: Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? Then you can take a look for a Migraine specialist on our patient recommended Migraine specialist list.

I hope this helps,

Nancy
