Friday, August 28, 2009 Denise Garrett asks

Q: Do Triptans contain dihydroergotamine?

The new drug Levadux, if and when it comes out has this in it. I'm just trying to see if it might be something I can take for my migraines.

Also, has anyone had success with this nasal spray dihydroergotamine, or shot?

Thanks.

Denise

Hi Denise,

Levadux contains a novel formulation of dihydroergotamine (DHE), while triptans do not contain these. Triptans and DHE is not to be taken in the same 24 hour period.

Any help?

Yes, this helps. I didn't know Levadux was on the market yet. So are they prescribing it now? What is your opinion on this medication?

thanks.

Denise,

Levadex isn't on the market yet. It's still in Phase III clinical trials.

You're welcome, Denise. You bet I'll keep everyone informed on Levadex! The latest info we have on it is in New Migraine Drug Levadex Performs Well in Trial. Nancy and I will be in Philadelphia next week attending the International Headache Congress. Maybe we'll find out more there.

Glad you had a Migraine-free day. Here's wishing you another one tomorrow!
