my dad has just had a ct scan resulting in two blood clots on the brain.
He has been having bad migraines for weeks and he is a heavy drinker and smoker, what do you think has caused this, and how deadly are blood clots on the brain.

Melissa,
I'd love to be able to give you a concrete answer, but only his doctor can do that. How severe these blood clots are depends on many factors including size, location, and other issues. Sometimes, clots can cause strokes. Your father definitely has big risk factors, the heavy drinking and smoking issues you mentioned.
Sorry, but the best advice I can give you is to gave a talk with your dad's doctor.

Not to scare you but blood clots are dangerous anywhere in the body. Today they do have medications to dissolve them pretty quickly and medications to thin out the blood to prevent further bloodclots. My late mom who did live to 91 had blood clots regularly, on her lungs, legs, etc. but that's not what may her pass away. Good luck.
