Q: Can retinal migraine causes permanent monocular scotomas?

For the past 10 years, I have been experiencing small grey blobs (one eye at a time) in my vision that are most noticeable when I blink. Over a period of days or weeks they turn into blind spots that I can see on an Amsler Grid.

I have seen many opthalmologists, including retina surgeons, and nothing has been found to explain my problem.

I am now 40, take no medications, have normal BP, no diabetes. I have, however, suffered from migraine with aura (scintillating scotoma, numbness etc) since I was a child.

Could my other problem be migraine related?

Mel,

These symptoms should resolve when the Migraine is over. They should be neither persistent without a Migraine nor permanent. I suggest you consult a Migraine specialist about this. If you need help finding one, you can check our directory of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Please let us know how things go?

Good luck,

Teri
