Q: Maxalt stops my headaches. Can it also stop my paralysis migraines that don't have headache?

I have migraine episodes where I don't get a headache, but have other neurological symptoms such as paralysis.  Can a migraine medicine like the Maxalt I take for migraine headaches cut short the attacks of paralysis too?  Or are those meds specific to resolving pain and not any type of migraine episode?

Heiferly,

There's no simple answer to this one. The only form of Migraine that can cause paralysis is hemiplegic Migraine, and many doctors don't prescribe triptans such as Maxalt for hemiplegic Migraine because they feel they're risky.

In general, Maxalt should resolve all Migraine sympotms, even if there is no headache with the Migraine. But, hemiplegic Migraines can be very different, and the neurological symptoms can last beyond the end of the Migraine.

Please discuss this further with your doctor.

Best wishes,

Teri
