PCPerson,   That's a hard comparison to make. The reason one may work for a Migraineur when the other doesn't is that they bind to different combinations of serotonin receptors. Still, their actions are the same.   The labeling information for Imitrex and Maxalt carry pretty much the same warnings, and I don't know that either is considered "safer" than the other. When their is no history or high risk factors for stroke or heart disease and no uncontrolled high blood pressure, the triptans are considered safe medications.   You can read more about Imitrex in our Imitrex profile and more about Maxalt in our Maxalt profile.   The best thing you can do is talk to your doctor about your concerns and your options.   Good luck, Teri
