Q: Nose Bleeds

Now that I've entered the over 50 club, I don't have  migraines as frequently as I used to. Now, they're about 2 or 3 times a month and last from 2 to 3 days. However, Im getting daily nose bleeds, and I wondered if what is triggering the nose bleeds and what triggers the migraines, is one and the same? My allergist has referred me to a specialist, and I'm waiting for the appointment....but that will definitely be a question for him.

Is anyone else experiencing same?

Hi linda,

Nose bleeds are not common with Migraines as far as I know. What I do know however, is single Migraine that lasts 72 hours or longer with less than a solid four-hour pain-free period, while awake, is termed status Migrainous. You should see your doctor or go to the emergency room if a Migraine lasts that long. See Status Migrainous - The Basics for more information.

Trigger identification and management is an important part of Migraine management and preventing Migraines. You may have some triggers that you can avoid, thus preventing Migraines brought on by those triggers. Do you know what any of your triggers are? When working to identify triggers one of the best tools is a good Migraine diary. You can read more about this and download a free diary workbook in our article Your Migraine and Headache Diary.

Good luck

Nancy

Thank you Nancy for your prompt reply. Cardio vascular issues seem to be of norm for me!! (inclu. Raynaud, and hypertention). My family dr. doesn't seem to be that concerned with the state of my migraines, however I am aware of many triggers; such as scents, stress, barometric pressure fluctuations, red and oaked wines, gas fumes, smoke, fatigue, low blood glucose, exceedingly bright light, extremes in temperature...and hormones.

Thanks Nancy....lindaCool
