Topics:Migranes in pregnancy

I'm sufferring a chronic daily headache for 6 years and migranes ontop of that 2/3 times a week. I'm now 19 weeks pregnant and getting migranes nearly everyday now. My GP at home said it was ok for me to continue the amitriptyline while pregnant for the chonic daily headache. I'm in the states for a year and just tried to get a refill on persciption and was told no that i could have prozac instead and stop the amitriptline. Can i take this while pregnant?  Before when I stopped amitriptyline i was in bed for 6 months in agony

Prozac and amitriptyline are both FDA pregnancy category C. This means one of two things:

1) Animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.

or

2) No animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.

With category C medications the benefits to the mother are weighed against the risk to the baby in making a decision of whether or not to prescribe it.
