This means one of two things:   1) Animal studies have shown an adverse effect and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. or 2) No animal studies have been conducted and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.   With category C medications the benefits to the mother are weighed against the risk to the baby in making a decision of whether or not to prescribe it.   The answer to this question is also affected by your general health, the state of your pregnancy, and other factors. It need to be answered by your OB/GYN.   Please let us know how you do?   Good luck, Teri
