Hi Donna,
I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you.
Since ergotamines such as Migranal, DHE and the triptans all work by binding to serotonin receptors, it is not safe to take more than one of ANY of them in a 24-hour period. Thus, it is not safe to mix any of those medications with Migranal in the same 24-hour period. Of Migraine abortive medications, that leaves Midrin for you to ask your doctor about.
Also, are you limited to just ONE dose of Migranal in 24 hours?
A study was recently released indicating that people with a long history of Migraine and/or frequent Migraine attacks are at an increased risk for brain damage. Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage. Being Migraine free for only three or four days month may mean your preventive medication needs adjusting, or a different one. Again, this is a conversation for you and your doctor. But don't give up hope, there are over 100 medications used for Migraine prevention. Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up! will provide you the information needed to re-evaluate your Migraine prevention plan if necessary.
Good luck
Nancy
