Q: Why did my migraines come back suddenly and worse than before?

Last night I had a migraine, while it wasn't as painful in comparison to some of them that I have had. The nausea/vomiting, aura, vision loss, memory loss, fatigue, physical body pain, mental cognitivity, speech impediment were all far more severe than normal. A new development in my migraines are the almost seizure like muscle spasms down the left side of my body that started at about 12am and continued until nearly 3am. They were sporadic and a little scary. The deep memory loss is also strange. My boyfriend and I went to 3 stores last night and I barely remember one, full conversations that I remember nothing of. Usually the memory loss isn't this bad.

Up until a few weeks ago I thought I had grown out of these types of migraines with the exception of ocular migraines since I hadn't had one in years. Now I have had 2 in the space of 3 weeks. These are a new breed of migraine and I am not sure how to deal with them. Anyone else have these types of migraines? What should I do to prevent them? How can I treat them? Why after so long, have they come back and worse than before?

Would my having quit smoking on March 24th have anything to do with it?

Eastoria,

Migraine frequency and severity can change for no known reason. They can also change because you've developed new triggers.

However, when anything like you desrcribe happens, it's important to see your doctor to be sure it IS Migraine. Also, only your doctor has your full medical history and can examine you, so only your doctor can tell you how to treat them.

Good luck,

Teri
