I'm not quite sure I'm following parts of your question, but I'll do my best.

About your MRI -- do you mean nothing showed up on it before these strokes? They would usually show on an MRI.

Migrainous strokes ARE "proper strokes." It's just a matter of what causes them.

Nobody is going to be able to give you very dependable percentage chances of your having another stroke. By reviewing your medical records, discussing current symptoms and test results, and doing an examination, your doctor may be able to give you a general idea of if it's unlikely, somewhat likely, etc.

As Migraineurs, we all need to have a conversation with our doctors about lifestyle changes that can help us reduce modifiable stroke risks such as nutrition, smoking, exercise, etc. Depending on the extent of the strokes you've had, your doctor may suggest that you stay away from triptan (Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc.) and ergotamine (DHE, Migranal Nasal Spray) Migraine abortive medications. Also, depending on which type of stroke you had (ischemic or hemorrhagic), he may suggest medication that can help reduce your risk of future strokes.

Hope this helps,

Teri
