Have you tried any of the migraine abortive medications such as Imitrex, Zomig or Maxalt? I have violent migraines sometimes and these work well for me. Of course when I awaken with a migraine already in full flare it may take hours to get good relief. I also take Topomax every day. This has not stopped my migraines or lessened the frequency but I no longer have the worst migraines where I awakened paralyzed by the pain and unable to even move for hours. I am allergic to almost all narcotic pain medications and they never helped my migraines anyway, so Oxycontin, etc., are not an option for me. Oxycontin is one of the most highly addictive drugs in existence so your doctor may be worried about that. Go to a neurologist and discuss some specific migraine drugs to help you. There are injections you can administer at home and I have used a nasal inhalant system for migraines that worked well too. Good luck! Mea
