Winter Holiday GuideEnjoying the Holidays Despite Migraines and Headaches --> Info for you...

given dx of MS but still having head pain- put on topamax- side affects like MS- what now??

KRS

Started with facial numbness on left side with right side arm and leg numbness. Major migraine occurred and symptoms got more pronounced. MRI indicated multiple lesions. Spinal tap normal- no IgG antibodies- but given dx of MS.  My head still hurts.  Was given topamax after spinal tap to help with pain of head (by pain specialist-not neuro). Made face less numb but other side effects worse.  Extreme sensitivity to cool/cold temperature.  Can not have cold air blow on top of head or pain is intense - almost paralyzing (which is opposite of MS).   Any ideas on what I should discuss with my doctor?  Any recommendation on a doctor at UNC- CH, Duke?  Current neuro too busy to see patients. FYI: Biological father was paralyzed for 2 years on left side due to migraine (they said)...

Thanks-

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
