Q: I've had migraines for the past 16 years and they can no loger be controlled...Please Help!

I've had migraines for the past 16 years and have been controlled to some point with various medications and only receiving around 3-5 migraines per month. However, up until the last two years everything has changed.  My migraines attack at least once per day and sometimes up to 3 times.  Both my doctor and neurologist haven't founf any reasoning for this. They have tried various medications, along with botox and even physical thrapy and chiropratic specialists, but nothing seems to help.  If you have any advice please help

The best possible advice is to get yourself to a Migraine specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

You don't have to live like this, but you do need a doctor who really understands Migraine disease and how to treat it.

Please keep us posted?

Welcome again,

Teri

Well I have my primary care doctor, along with a neurologist.  Both from the Veteran's Association (VA).  However, they have told me that there is no more that they can do and that I'll just have to live with this.  At this time I'm unable to work, which means no money and no private insurance.  This means that I'm unable to see any other specialists other than those provided to me from the VA.

Jeff,

I suggest being a squeaky wheel. When VA doctors can't do anything for you, there's supposed to be a process by which they refer you to an ouside specialist, and the VA pays for it. Someone with the VA should be able to help you get this process going. If you have problems getting them to help you, go to www.senate.gov and www.house.gov and email your Senators and member of the House. You'd be amazed what can happen when you get them involved.

Just don't give up. You do NOT have to live this way. We just have to get you to a doctor who can help.
