I'm currently using Maxalt RPD 10mg. I'm trying to get pregnant. Should I stop taking Maxalt?

I have migraines quiet frequently.  On average, I'm using about 3 Maxalt a month.  About two months ago we decided we decide we would start trying to have a baby.  I was reading on the pamphlet that you should not use this drug if you're pregnant or if you're  trying to get pregnant.  I understand that I when I get pregnant I won't be able to take medication for Migraines, however should I stop using Maxalt all together?  Is there anything you would recommend as an alternative to Maxalt?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

This would be a question for your OB/GYN or your Neruologist and/or Migraine Specialist. Getting the two of them to work together on this issue would also be beneficial.

My doctor has prescribed the following vitamins, which significantly helped my migraines.  They are as follows:

CoQ10 -- 100 mg twice a day (I take 600mg a day, but started with 100 twice a day.)

Feverfew twice a day

B2 -- 400 mg in the a.m.

Magnesium -- 600 mg --

I've found the CoQ10 and the B2 to be the most important, but my doctor emphasized that taking all 4 in combination is what's helpful.  If I deviate and miss a few doses, I'll have a migraine onset.  I also have experimented and found various food (sugar, MSG, Ginger, Cinnamon) and some other vitamines (B6, D)triggers in addition to stress, and need to avoid them, regardless of of my vitamin regime.  It's important to have HIGH quality CoQ10 -- I use life extension.  Low quality just doesn't work.  My doctor said it could take months for me to notice a difference, but I felt better within two weeks.  This might not be the answer for you, but I've gone from having daily migraines to migraines 3-4 times a month.  I am considering trying to get pregnant, and my OB Doctor has said that these vitamins are safe.

Good luck....

JJB,

PLEASE check with your OB again and do some research on your own. Feverfew should NOT be taken if you're trying to get pregnant. It can cause miscarriage.

Good luck!
Teri
