What about Neurontin to prevent migraines? Anyone tried it? Scared of the sideffects!
So glad I found this site
, from a fellow blogger. I am in the middle of one of those nasty 3 day migraine "tours" and ready to do just about anything to get rid of it. My Imitrex works a little bit but the migraine is there again the next day. My Neuroligist prescribed Neurontin 300 mg 3 times a day to prevent the migraines but....he also prescribed me a beta blocker 2 years ago that never did anything to the migraines but made my heart go nuts. SCARY. After reading about the side effects of Neurontin I am scared to take them. It is crazy not to trust your doctor, I don't, but he is one of the best
... that is another question for another day. For now...anyone out there taking Neurontin to prevent migraines???
A lot of doctors really love the anti-seizure meds...don't know why
I was on topamax for a year (similar to neurontin) and hated it; I could go on for days about how bad my experience was
A different doctor tried to put me on neurontin a few months ago. I tried it for two weeks and started to feel some of the same side effects as the topamax...so I got off of it.
I would say try it, you've got nothing to lose by crossing one more drug off your list right? Just monitor yourself carefully for changes or side effects that you find unpleasant, and be firm with your doctor about what YOU feel works and doesn't.

I have been on Neurontin 1200 mg at bedtime for 1 1/2 yrs. I have not had any side effects from it except some slight dizziness when I first started it. I am taking it for occipital nerve pain (nerve that runs from base of neck to top of head). I have arthritis in the upper vertebra joints of my neck closest to my skull which triggers migraines and occipital neuralgia. The Neurontin helps but I also have to do physical therapy exercises daily to build up the muscles that support my neck and to improve flexibility in my neck. In reading your other post, I wonder if some of your neck pain can be due to the way you hold your posture when doing your artwork?
