I am taking Topamax 100 mg's twice a day-for @ 6 years .Are other sufferers taking this drug?
My neurologist prescribed Topomax for my debilitating migraine headaches, which occured 2-4 times a week and forced me to call in sick as the headaches caused me to be unable to carry out my duties as a perioperative registered nurse, at a very busy level 1 trauma center. The neurologist warned me that this drug could make me a little bit dull, or a little bit forgetful. I am now 68 years old and retired, and wonder how many other migraine sufferers have been on this drug.? I think it has been a godsend!
I am taking the same mg once a day (at night) and have been for 2 yrs. So far so good. I notice if I forget a dose such as when I forget to pick my rx up, I start to feel my head ache. I take Topomax and Pamelor 25mg every night.

I am glad it has help you, I was on it (same dose) for a couple of years, then taken off and tried again later. however the Topamax did not control my migraines at all, I am still having them daily and on several meds. I pray that the Topamax continues to help you.
God Bless

I used to take it, but found the "dopamax" feeling was making it hard to do my job. It helped some with the headaches, but not enough to put up with the downsides. I do miss the weight-loss however! I am now taking verapimil and have not had a headache in over two months.

I am taking 50mg once per day which seems to be controlling the migraines with minimal side effects. I don't experience any of the dopamax symptoms.

I've been on Topamax for almost 4 years. I started out at 50mg/day and increased to just over 100mg/day. It was definitely helping, but my hair was falling out more and the higher dose wasn't doing any more than the 50mg. Unwilling to give it up completely, I went back to 50mg/day and added metoprolol. That has been fabulous for the past 2.5 years! But I do have the dopamax going on. . .doc says the additional drug compounds the side effects.

My son is 11 and suffers from chronic migraines on the severe end of the scale. He takes 75mg of topamax twice daily and it has definately made a difference. He suffers from a congenital heart defect too and Topamax is one of the few Px he can take. It has changed our lives and so far no side effects. He also takes Butablital for pain once a migraine comes. We just received a new Px called Maxalt. Does anybody know how it can affect someone with Tetralogy of Fallot?
I have been taking this topamax for about a year now. With my regular meds that I take for headaches. Which is two different anti-depressants and one high blood pressure meds. I notice with age my headaches are getting worse.

I'm taking Topamax once a day as well and it is keeping everything but the hormonal migraines at bay for now. The only side effects I felt when I first started was tingling/numbing in my fingertips & hand, some stuttering and slowness in everyday activities. However, this happens also when I take Imitrex / Maxalt. My body also feels like it got hit by a car.
Happy with Topamax... still looking for an alternative to Imitrex and Maxalt. :)

My doctor suggested Topamax or Depakote, but I have been too worried about side effects. They sound pretty bad. As far as migraine abortives-I really like Relpax. It doesn't cause any weird feeling in my chest and generally the headache doesn't come back. If I take it early enough I don't even miss work, although I still feel worn out and such. Zomig was waht I tried right before this and it was pretty good but not as effective. Goo luck!

YES!! I take Imitrex and feel like I've been run over often as well. I noticed that once I added Topamax the side effects from Imitrex were more pronounced. I also became short of breath quite easily just going up a flight of stairs. Once I lost some weight (had packed some on from other drugs and inability to move from pain) it was better, but I still get short of breath at times even though thechnically I'm within my weight range.
Topamax was pure torture for me! I was dopey, had hallucinations, had weird dreams, couldn't wake up from sleep (this really scared me), got lost while driving, I was depressed and so tired I could hardly function. I didn't trust myself to drive a car while I was on it. My headaches DID go away, but I was so miserable I went off it after six months. I will never take it again. I ended up going to a clinic in Ann Arbor Michigan that specializes in migraine treatment and am now on a drug regimen that I can live with. The doctor there said I am probably particularly sensative to Topamax and similar medications and should stay away from them. And, believe me, I will! I still get migraines pretty regularly, but Imitrex injection dispatches most of them within 15 monutes so I am happy with that. Good luck and I'm glad Topamax is helping you.

I take Topamax twice a day (75 mg each time) and it has worked wonders for me. I've been on it about 6 years replacing Depakote which mainly made me gain a great deal of weight (about 100 pounds). I've lost about half of that since starting the Topamax. The only side effect has been some memory loss but that comes and goes.

Topomax made me extremely short of breath, to the extent that I could not even climb a flight of stairs!! It also made my fingers and toes tingle almost constantly. It also made almost everything I ate taste like metal. I stuck it out for several months, because it was the first time in my life I had not had horrible headaches. After thousands of dollars on heart tests to see if I had heart blockage, I determined, and dicussed with my doctor, that it was the topomax. I was only 39 years old at the time, and am back to having headaches all the time.

Yes I am also taking topamax 100 mg's but I am only taking it once a day. I have been taking it for a lot longer than you have but am not sure how long. I had menstral related migraines and now that I am in menopause I no longer get the severe migraines I used to but am still on topamax. I also found another medication that is not a perscription medication that helps with the migraines and as soon as I started taking it my migraines subsided. It is called Migrelief. You can order it over the internet. My mother sent me an article about it and after reading it I was convinced that it was worth trying and I have not had a migraine since I started taking it. Check it out.

Hi....
I'm taking topamax again, I already tried depakote witch make me gain 16 pounds in 7 days and losing hair like if I was in a quimo, after that I tried topamax, I lost 26 pounds in 6 months, I had memory lost very bad, like even forgetting my shopping list, I was in a point that I need to put everything on the paper otherwise I'll never remember.
My neurologist put me on zonegran , she said was good but with no side effects.
I used that for 8 months and now , I'm back to topamax, I have 22 days a month with migraine, with the treatment, topamax, pamelor, clonazepan we are able to reduce to 13 but, I was fired this month from my job because of the migraines and, my doctor is trying to get the botox treatment for me because it seems that my case it's not going to end, with preventive and triptans(i tried all of them) and whatever it is.
I hope topamax works for you, that help me a lot but, the side effects on me was pretty bad, but people react different, so good luck to all.

I took Topamax for about 6 months and migraine pain went way down. It did make me groggy/slow at times so it was hard to be as efficient at work. Then due to other problems I had to start birthcontrol pills which negated the positive effects of Topamax so I had to change meds.

I can't say how many patients have been prescribed topamax but I am sure there are thousands of migraine and other pain sufferers taking topamax.
I was on 400mg for 8 years and now have backed off to 100mg daily soon to be no longer on the med.
I have had a great difficulty with my cognitive abilities and they seem to gotten worse just in the last couple of years.
I can tell a difference when I do get a migraine I would give myself an injection of Imitrex. For the most times of taking Imitrex along with some preventatives topa would increase the recovery time. Now that my dose is so much lower the migraine hangs on a bit too long for me. Many times do I give my self two 2 injections of Imitrex.
I would do some internet look up on topamax. I am sure you will find plenty feedback on the med along with lots and lots of reading material.

I am on Topamax 50mg twice a day along with Lyrica twice a day. I did not realize that this may cause my hair to fall out. I am definitely having this problem. My migranes still are not under control.
