I can't be sure what you've been hearing about, but I don't think it's what your grandmother had done. I think it's what's described in this article - Plastic Surgery for Migraines?
Please read the article carefully. The procedure is a preventive measure, NOT a cure, AND it only works for some Migraineurs.
